Wanru Ni

Overview

I am a current PhD student in Sociology at Cornell University. Before coming to Cornell, I earned my MA in Media, Culture and Communication at New York University and my BA in Business English, with a double major in Finance at the University of International Business and Economics in China.

My general research interests include culture, social movements and labor studies. I’m also drawn to the intersection of the gig economy, algorithmic management platforms, and computational text analysis. My previous project examined the ACT UP movement in 1990s New York City, focusing on how specific protest tactics gained public recognition. When I’m not doing academic stuff, you can find me in Cornell cinema or any trails in Ithaca with a film camera.
