Overview
Mary joined the PhD Program in 2024 after receiving her BA in Sociology from Davidson College in 2023. Her undergraduate honors thesis used archival data and student and faculty interviews to propose an explanation of the gender achievement gap at elite colleges and universities. She spent her first postgraduate year as a Research Coordinator at Davidson's College Crisis Initiative, where she led an undergraduate data collection for her working paper on the role of institutional rankings and academic prestige in faculty hiring at small liberal arts colleges in the US.
Since entering graduate school, Mary has turned her attention to the subfields of Gender, Sexuality, and Culture. More specifically, she is interested in transgender studies, queer subcultures, and drag performance.
