The field of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender Studies is devoted to the investigation of the complexities of sexuality and its importance to the organization of social relations more generally. Primary among its concerns is also the study of the lives, the politics, and the creative work of sexual and gender minorities.

LGBT Resource Center

The Cornell LGBT Resource Center has provided education, outreach, advocacy, and support for the LGBTQ+ community at Cornell for over twenty years. Staffed Monday through Friday, the Resource Center strives to be an affirming and welcoming space on campus that works to incorporate principles of social justice into programs and services.

The richer get richer – not just materially, but socially

Cornell University sociologists Benjamin Cornwell, Barum Park and Cristobal Young of the College of Arts & Sciences found social connections are as unequally distributed as income, reinforcing economic advantage. Their open-access book, Friends and Fortunes: Social Capital Inequality in America, shows wealthy Americans hold larger, more influential social networks.

Faculty excellence in teaching and advising honored with 2026 awards

Cornell’s College of Arts & Sciences honors the winners of its 2026 teaching and advising awards. Faculty members Nicole Giannella, Karola Mészáros and Landon Schnabel stand out this year, earning major awards for excellence; many instructors and teaching assistants received recognition, as well.
