Álvaro Padilla Pozo

Overview

I am a sociologist and demographer interested in how spatial contexts, social networks, and climate change contribute to the (re)production of social inequality.

Currently, I am working on two projects.  The first project seeks to assess how structural neighborhood conditions are associated with patterns of spatial isolation.  The second project focuses on understanding how social network characteristics shape how much people travel around their city on a given day, as well as the range and diversity of the spaces they visit.

My dissertation is going to focus on unraveling the social mechanisms that increase individuals' exposure to heat and their risk of experiencing heat-related morbidity and mortality during heat waves.

Some of my previous work has been published in Scientific Reports, Social Science and Medicine, Population Space and Place, and PLOS One.
