Demographers in the field of sociology carry out research on varied aspects of population composition, distribution, and change. Substantive areas of inquiry include families and children, health disparities, poverty, immigration, and neighborhood change. Social demographers are unified by common approaches to data and method.
Social demographers in the Department of Sociology work closely with demographers in other units on campus, most notably in Policy Analysis and Management. Their work is facilitated by the Cornell Population Center and the Center for the Study of Inequality.
