Four Cornell faculty members win prestigious internal and external fellowships

Four Cornell sociology faculty will spend the 2018/2019 academic year pursuing new projects through fellowships at Princeton, Berlin, Cornell’s Atkinson, and Cornell's Institute for the Social Sciences.

Professor Mabel Berezin was elected to membership in the School of Social Sciences at The Institute for Advanced Study in Princeton. Berezin will spend the year working on a project on the challenges to democratic cohesion and solidarity in Europe and the United States.

Professor Filiz Garip was awarded a one-semester fellowship from the Atkinson Center at Cornell University. She’ll spend the semester developing a new project on the relationship between climate change and migration flows.

Professor Anna Haskins will be spending a ‘dream’semester at the Institute for Social Sciences (ISS) as a Faculty Fellow. Dr. Haskins will continue use the semester to develop her work on educational inequality, social stratification, race and ethnicity, and the consequences of mass incarceration.

Professor Richard Swedberg will be a Fellow at the Wissenschaftskolleg  (Institute for Advancd Study) in Berlin, which brings together scholars from many disciplines to advance interdisciplinary conversation and research. He’ll spend the semester on his latest book on economic sociology and social theory.
